    High level officials, policy makers and industry representatives met on Sunday, 14th November at Expo 2020, for the EU Energy Day to discuss the ‘EU Green Deal and the role of hydrogen in the energy transition”. The event was organised by the European Union and was hosted in the Netherlands Pavilion, Expo 2020 Dubai. 
  • Press Release : First EU event at Expo 2020 focuses on European Green Deal
    The first European Union event at Expo 2020 Dubai on Sunday and Monday 3-4 October titled: ‘EU Green Deal: Research & Innovation as a driver towards climate neutrality’. The event was hosted in partnership with the Sweden Pavilion in the Sustainability District and featured a high-level hybrid workshop; and a EU projects’ networking village showcasing success innovation stories and breakthroughs. 
  • Press Release : EU and UAE policy makers and experts discuss Hydrogen as the energy carrier of the future during the "EU Hydrogen Forum in the UAE"
    The "EU Hydrogen Online Forum in the UAE: Hydrogen, the Energy Carrier of the Future” took place yesterday Wednesday, 25 November 2020 and was joined by approximately 250 participants. The event was presented by the Delegation of the European Union to the United Arab Emirates and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network.
  • Press Release : Officials from the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council discuss policies and technologies for economic diversification in the context of climate change
    Experts and officials from the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are discussing economic diversification in the context of climate change during the two-day EU GCC workshop that started yesterday in Brussels. The workshop is organised by the European Commission in partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General (GCC SG) and is facilitated by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, a project funded by the EU. The event is part of series of EU GCC cooperation initiatives organized in the field of clean energy and climate change.
  • Press Release : Representatives from the Gulf Region Visit Solar Thermal Power Sites in Spain  
    Experts of energy authorities and R&D organisations from the Gulf region are visiting solar thermal power sites in Spain this week in the framework of a 5–day study tour on “Solar thermal applications for the energy transition”. This initiative is organised by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, funded by the European Commission, in cooperation with CENER, the Network partner in Spain. The study tour aims to promote the exchange of experiences and know-how between the EU and the GCC on clean energy technologies and applications. 
  • Press Release : GCC and European Union experts discussing the Energy-Water Nexus at the first GCC-EU regional workshop hosted in Muscat 
    The Gulf countries have been facing rapid increases in their energy and water consumption brought on by high economic and population growth; changing lifestyles; industrial activity and harsh climatic conditions. Water sources in the Gulf, due to the lack of surface water, are either underground fossil aquifers or desalinated sea water.  Policy makers in the EU and in the GCC are increasingly focused on the water scarcity and efficiency challenges and the water-energy nexus is gaining momentum. Therefore suitable and efficient technologies and policies should be identified and promoted either in regards to desalination technologies or the whole water-energy system including decoupling power generation from desalination.
  • Press Release : Executive Training on “Smart Energy and Sustainable Local Energy Planning Tools and Methods” 
    A 5-day executive training on “Smart Energy and Sustainable Local Energy Planning Tools and Methods” is taking place this week in Kuwait, ending today 29 November. The event is organized by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, the Environmental Center for Arab Towns (ECAT), the Kuwait Environment Protection Society and the Environmental NGO Gulf Network, and it hosted by the Environment Public Authority. The seminar is followed by more than 45 selected experts coming from Kuwait and the GCC public and private sector, while seminars are delivered by distinguished experts from the Network, the European Commission and the region. 
  • Press Release : GCC and EU experts meet in Oman to share policies and best practice on energy efficiency
    Energy efficiency policies, technologies and practices for the industrial and building sectors in the EU and in the GCC region are being discussed during  a two-day executive workshop starting today in Muscat. The event organised by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, has gathered more than 180 experts representing policy makers, authorities, industry, building energy-users, engineers and technology providers as well as academicians and researchers.

  • Press Release : PDO partners with the Network to host Executive Energy Efficiency Workshop in Oman 
    Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), in partnership with the European Union-Gulf Co-operation Council (EU-GCC) Clean Energy Technology Network, is organising an EU-GCC Workshop on Energy Efficiency, to take place in Oman, on 28-29 October 2018. The workshop will focus on solutions and methodologies for the Industry and building sectors.

25 representatives of utilities and energy authorities from all GCC states as well as from GCC Interconnection Authority are participating in the EU Study tour on “Electricity Interconnections and Markets” organised by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network in cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority  (GCC IA). The study tour, already successfully in its third day, takes place from 2-5 July in Belgium and Germany and aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences and know-how among EU and GCC stakeholders.

Experts of energy authorities from the Gulf region visit clean energy sites in Germany in the framework of the clean energy study tour organised by the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network. The initiative is coordinated with the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General (GCC SC) and it aims to promote the exchange of experiences and know-how between the EU and the with GCC on clean energy technologies and applications, mainly on renewables and electricity interconnections. 

Under the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdul – Aziz governor of Medina, a 3-day executive training on “Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings: Policies-Technologies and Best Practices” was launched on Monday, April 16 in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The event is an initiative of the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network coorganised with the Al – Madinah Al – Munawrah Development Authority and the Environmental Center for Arab Towns (ECAT), in association also with Blue Wave Media.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) hosted in its headquarters in Dubai Academic City a ‘clean cool’ workshop exploring ways of meeting the country’s rapidly rising demand for air-conditioning with more sustainable cooling technologies. This special event was co-hosted with the EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network and the University of Birmingham in partnership with the Heriot-Watt University. A number of experts from both the UAE and Europe attended the workshop to discuss the opportunities from a wide range of emerging low-carbon cooling systems and how to cooperate in accelerating their deployment. 

The Authority for Electricity Regulations (AER), the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, funded by the European Union, organise a two days event on Solar PV Roof Top Technologies, taking place in Muscat, Oman on 13-14 December 2017. The event, gathering more than 120 experts from Oman, the GCC region and the EU, is held in association with the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA) and the Dii - Desert Energy.

​The Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE) and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network organise a two-day high level workshop and training on energy efficiency and cooling technologies, held at the KSE premises. 

Frank Wouters, Director of the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network talks about changes in the energy relations between Europe and the Middle East. This series of interviews is part of the 5th edition of Visualizing Energy forum & exhibition during the 2017 EU Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels.

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network and the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) organised a two-day high level workshop on Electricity Interconnections and Trading in Manama, Bahrain on 21 and 22 May 2017. 

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in cooperation with the EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network, and in association with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and other organisations from the European Union (EU) and Gulf Cooperation Council Countries (GCC), has organised an inception meeting and training workshop on 15-16 May 2017 in Dubai to discuss establishing the ‘GCC Solar Photovoltaic Testing Centres Network.

Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director, was interviewed by the DubaiEye Radio within the Middle East Electricity 2017 (MEE 2017) event. During the interview Mr. Wouters provided insights in regards to clean energy technology trends.

On Tuesday, 17 January 2017 in Abu Dhabi fruitful discussions took place at the Forum on Clean Energy Opportunities and Challenges in the GCC region, which was co-organised by the UAE Ministry of Energy, the Gulf Cooperation Council Secretariat General, the EU-GCC Clean Energy Network and the DG Energy of the European Commission.
